Newark, New Jersey Begins the Deployment of Mutualink’s Community-Wide Interoperability Public Safety Communications System

Wallingford, CT March 12, 2008 - The City of Newark, New Jersey today announced that it is deploying Mutualink’s innovative public safety communication system city-wide to improve interoperability among the city’s agencies. “We envision an emergency communication system that includes not only the Police, Fire and EMS services, but also the schools and school buses, hospitals, university campuses, transit, the Prudential Center and our major corporate campuses” said Garry McCarthy, Newark’s Police Director, “and Mutualink provides an affordable and easy-to-use solution to accomplish this goal”.

“Mutualink extends our current resources to leverage and communicate better with other agencies and private security forces. Mutualink will help our city to strengthen public and private partnerships especially during the time of critical incidents” said Anthony Campos, Newark’s Chief of Police.

“We have been working with Mutualink on a unique city-wide emergency preparedness solution that connects 2-way radio systems, video and telephone systems” said Peter Lutz, MIS Director for the Newark Police Department. “In addition, we are looking to expand the communication capabilities to neighboring cities, counties and state agencies to enable a completely new level of communication. We believe that Mutualink is the perfect tool to accomplish this objective” he added.

“Mutualink’s solution is unique because it overcomes the significant barriers that prevent effective communications interoperability among public safety agencies and other high-risk and high-priority community entities. Our system is deployed on a peer-to-peer basis which allows each agency to safely and securely communicate with other agencies in time of critical incidents” said Peter Karoczkai, CEO of Mutualink. “Mutualink will also assist Newark to integrate the new functionality into their daily emergency procedures and help to conduct the necessary exercises to ensure unparalleled emergency response” – Karoczkai added.

The City of Newark will begin deploying the Mutualink system in March 2008. The initial phase of the system is scheduled to complete in Q2 2008 with additional locations targeted to be added throughout the year. Additionally, several private corporations and other city agencies will be participating in the deployment.
